Family of Schools

The Schools are fully independent and owe their existence to William Jones, a liveryman of the Haberdashers’ Company, who bequeathed funds to establish a school in 1614.  The endowment enables the Schools to improve continually their facilities and offer an excellent education, whilst ensuring very competitive fees.  There is also a wide range of scholarships, bursaries and Assisted Places available.

Boys and girls often spend all their school years in the Haberdashers’ ‘family’, and we are geared up for siblings across the schools.  Consequently, the schools have co-ordinated term dates and key events, they share the same foundation and have the same Board of Governors.

The Heads, teachers and pupils are often in contact on a day-to-day basis, although each school is proud of its individual identity.

Monmouth School and HMSG share a co-ordinated Sixth Form timetable, which means that students from each school have access to a range of around 30 A and AS level subjects and are able to choose from a greater number of subject combinations, studying some subjects in each other’s schools.  The senior pupils also take part in joint activities such as the Cadet Force, music, drama, and foreign expeditions.

Pupils in the Lower Sixth take part in a joint Key Skills course, and we encourage co-operation in music, drama and extra-curricular activities to increase the opportunities available to pupils from all the schools.

Boarders at HMSG and Monmouth School join together in many of the activities and outings which comprise the full programme of after-school and weekend activities.
