Professor Peter Blood

Cardiff University's representative Governor. Educated at Long Eaton Grammar School (Derbyshire) and the University of Leeds (PhD Physics).  Member of staff Philips Research Laboratories UK, visitor at Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill, USA, now Professor of Physics, Cardiff University. At various times head of physics department, and pro vice chancellor for research; deputy vice-chancellor to July 2010.  Active in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research. Research interests in semiconductor laser physics, and applications in the life-sciences. Married, one daughter (former pupil at HMSG), lives near Usk. Chief interest beyond the university is music, particularly the organ, taking lessons as a very late learner.  Appointed 2006.
