Former chairman of Institution of Civil Engineers (West Midlands), and governor of Aldersey Church of England Primary School, Bunbury. At Coventry Cathedral: lay canon, clerk to the council, and member of Fabric Advisory Committee. Lay member of Lord Chancellor's Advisory Committee for Coventry. Trustee of the Benevolent Fund of the Institute of Civil Engineers. Other interests: inland waterways, architecture and walking. Appointed 2001.
